Yes, Plus Beads
Yes, Plus Beads was founded by Julia Karugi while living in the Vumilia community, a former Internationally Displaced Persons Camp in Kenya. This project supports her and other women who have very few opportunities to earn money for their families. They use recycled materials like magazines, coconut shells and bones to create unique jewelry.
These fun three-stranded necklaces are made with paper beads by African women working with our artisan partner, Girls With Vision- Africa.

Girls with Vision is led by a team of volunteers who have responded to the incredible need surrounding women in the community of N’gando in Nairobi, Kenya. These women work with beading projects, start businesses that help them become independent, and find jobs that pay fair wages in the community.
Handmade by women living in refugee camps in Kenya, these necklaces and earrings are created by individually stripping and rolling recycled magazines to create the beads which are then painted and strung together.
