Our Thoughts on COVID-19
In America at present, people are experiencing measures of hardship and fear. People are running to stores only to find empty shelves. In many places, children cannot go to school and adults cannot go to work. Resources are limited, hospitals are filling up, and the future looks uncertain.
For many people in our world, however, these experiences are not new. There are no groceries on the shelves because there is no grocery store. Children cannot go to school because they cannot afford the cost of uniforms and supplies. Adults cannot go to work because there is simply no work to be had. Hospitals may not be full, but only because people cannot afford to be there. In many places around the globe, people constantly are living day-to-day because that is all they can do.
This week, America is experiencing a small portion of the challenges people in the larger world face every day. So, as we work through the next couple of weeks, let’s remember those who do not have the option to work from home or to self-quarantine. Let us unite on their behalf so that no one has to wonder whether there will be food for today or health for tomorrow. Let us support those who face these struggles daily even as we face some new and distressing struggles of our own.
Let’s let kindness dictate our actions regardless of our circumstances.
